Set Up Monthly Invoicing
For higher-spend accounts ($5,000+/month), request invoice billing:
Billing Center > Payment Methods
Click Request payment terms
Fill out application:
- Company information
- Business address
- Tax ID/VAT number
- Estimated monthly spend
Submit for LinkedIn's review
Approval time: 3-5 business days
Benefits of monthly invoicing:
Pay once per month instead of per charge
Net 30 payment terms (pay 30 days after invoice)
No credit card required
Higher spending limits
Remove a Payment Method
Payment Methods tab
Find card to remove
Click ••• (three dots)
Select Remove
Confirm removal
Note: Can't remove default payment method until you set another card as default.
Step 5: Check Spending Limits
View your account's spending cap:
Billing Center > Spending Limit tab
View current limit (e.g., $10,000/month)
Check amount used this billing cycle
See when limit resets (monthly)
If hitting limit:
Campaigns auto-pause when limit reached
Request increase via Request higher limit button
LinkedIn reviews and responds within 1-2 business days
Spending limit factors:
Account age
Payment history
Average monthly spend
Payment method (cards have lower limits than invoicing)
Common Billing Center Tasks
Task 1: Reconcile Monthly Ad Spend
Match invoices to internal accounting:
Billing History > Select date range
Export all invoices for the month
Cross-reference with Campaign Manager spend reports:
- Campaign Manager > Reports > Date range
- Compare total spend
Verify amounts match (within $5 due to timing)
Discrepancy reasons:
Invoices generated on different days than reports
Tax included in invoice but not campaign reports
Refunds or credits applied
Task 2: Dispute a Charge
If you see unexpected charges:
Billing History > Find disputed transaction
Click invoice number to view details
Check which campaigns were charged
If incorrect, contact LinkedIn Support:
- Billing Center > Help link
- Submit support ticket with invoice number
LinkedIn investigates within 5 business days
Task 3: Set Up Billing Alerts
Get notified when approaching spending limits:
Billing Center > Preferences tab
Click Billing alerts
Set threshold: "Alert me at 80% of spending limit"
Add email recipients
Save preferences
Alert triggers:
50%, 75%, 90%, 100% of spending limit
Payment method failing
Invoice overdue
Task 4: Add Billing Contact
Give someone access to invoices without Campaign Manager access:
Preferences > Billing contacts
Click Add contact
Enter email address
Select permissions:
- ☑ Receive invoices
- ☑ Payment failure alerts
- ☐ View billing history (requires Campaign Manager access)
Save
Use case: Finance team member who needs invoices but doesn't run campaigns.
Troubleshooting Billing Center Access
Issue 1: "Billing Center Not Available"
Causes:
Insufficient permissions
No payment method on file
Account not fully activated
Fixes:
Check your user role: Settings > Account Users > Your name
If "Campaign Viewer" or "Creative Manager," ask admin for upgrade
Need "Account Manager" or "Billing Admin" role minimum
If new account, complete billing setup first
Issue 2: Can't Download Invoices
Causes:
Browser blocking PDF downloads
No invoices generated yet (account too new)
Slow connection timing out
Fixes:
Check browser's download settings (allow PDFs)
Try different browser (Chrome, Firefox)
Wait 24 hours after first campaign spend for invoice generation
Right-click download link > "Save link as..."
Issue 3: Payment Method Won't Save
Causes:
Card number entered incorrectly
Card expired or declined by bank
ZIP code doesn't match billing address
International card not supported
Fixes:
Double-check card number (no spaces or dashes)
Verify expiration date format (MM/YY)
Use ZIP from billing statement
LinkedIn supports Visa, Mastercard, Amex (check card type)
Contact bank if card keeps declining
Issue 4: Spending Limit Too Low
Cause: LinkedIn sets conservative limits for new accounts
Fix:
Spending Limit tab > Request increase
Fill out form:
- Desired limit
- Justification (planned campaign budget)
- Supporting docs (optional)
Submit request
LinkedIn reviews account history:
- Payment reliability
- Account age
- Typical monthly spend
Response within 2 business days
Approval factors:
3+ months account history (higher approval rate)
No failed payments
Consistent monthly spend
Monthly invoicing accounts get higher limits
Billing Center vs Campaign Manager Differences
Summary: Billing Center = payments. Campaign Manager = campaigns.
Best Practices for Billing Management
Set up billing alerts: Get notified at 80% spending limit to avoid campaign pauses
Review monthly: Check invoices each month for accuracy
Keep backup payment method: Add secondary card to prevent campaign disruption
Request invoicing early: If spending $5k+/month, apply for payment terms to improve cash flow
Organize invoices: Download and save invoices monthly for accounting
Monitor spending limits: Request increases proactively before hitting limits
Add finance contact: Ensure your accounting team receives invoices automatically
Verify card expiration: Update payment methods before cards expire
Check for credits: LinkedIn sometimes issues credits for service issues—check balance regularly
Compare spend reports: Monthly reconciliation between Billing Center and Campaign reports
Understanding LinkedIn Billing Cycle
Automatic Billing (Credit Card)
How it works:
LinkedIn charges automatically as you spend
Threshold billing: Charged when you hit billing threshold OR on monthly date
Billing threshold examples: $500, $1,000 (varies by account)
Example:
Billing threshold: $500
Monthly billing date: 1st of month
If you spend $500 mid-month → charged immediately
If you only spent $200 by month-end → charged on the 1st
Manual Invoicing (Monthly Terms)
How it works:
LinkedIn invoices once per month for prior month's spend
Net 30 terms (pay within 30 days of invoice date)
Invoice emailed to billing contacts
Pay via wire transfer or check
Example:
January spend: $10,000
Invoice generated: February 5
Payment due: March 7 (30 days later)
